At the 2018 ALA Annual Conference, Charlesbridge spearheaded a panel discussion with authors Uma Krishnaswami, Bao Phi, Caldecott Honor illustrator Thi Bui, librarian Terry Young, and moderated by author Anne Sibley O'Brien. We examined language and culture as both barrier and opportunity, and ways teachers, librarians, and fellow students can help new arrivals not only fit in, but thrive and become teachers themselves.
Here are a few books from Charlesbridge that highlight the immigrant or refugee experience. And, you can download the curated list we shared at ALA Annual.
Further, you can find a database of books about immigrants, refugees, and living between the borders at I'm Your Neighbor, a website dedicated to sharing the stories of children from around the world.
