Adam Gustavson

Adam Gustavson wanted to be a cowboy.

He had chaps.
He had a two pint ten gallon hat.
He had a pair of six shooters.

He had an acute allergy to horses.

Adam drew lots of cowboys and horses instead. Over the years, other life goals would come and go, much the same way. For a time, he even considered becoming a crocodile farmer; this was curtailed by simply by his living in New Jersey, a state not renowned for its man-eating reptile population.

Eventually, Adam wanted to become an illustrator. His family's house was full of both art and art books, and by the time he was in third grade Francisco Goya's "Saturn devouring his son" was one of his favorite paintings.

Adam received his Bachelor's degree in illustration from Rowan University and his Master's from the School of Visial Arts in New York. Adam has illustrated several picture books, including the award-winning Good Luck, Mrs. K! (Margaret K. McElderry). He also teaches at Passaic County Community College in Paterson, New Jersey, and Seton Hall University in South Orange, New Jersey.

Adam and his family live in West Orange, New Jersey.
