Thinking Objective: Sequencing events chronologically or by order of importance

4. GOING SHOPPING (Personal Narrative)

Writing Objective: Writing a personal narrative: informing others about favorite things

Thinking Objective: Analyzing reasons for personal preferences

5. MY TOY (Exposition)

Writing Objective: Writing an exposition: informing others about how a toy works

Thinking Objective: Selecting characteristics of an object to describe its use

6. DESCRIBING AN OBJECT FROM NATURE (Descriptive Exposition)

Writing Objective: Writing a descriptive exposition: informing others about an object’s attributes

Thinking Objective: Categorizing observations into the five sensory categories

7. PROBLEM SOLVING (Exposition)

Writing Objective: Writing an exposition: explaining how to solve a problem

8. WRITING DIALOGUE FOR STORY CHARACTERS (Invented Narrative)

Thinking Objective: Inventing appropriate dialogue for characters in different stages of a story

9. STORY WRITING (Invented Narrative)
